Detention Center Inspection
CRUEL AND INHUMANE CONDITIONS AT ICE DETENTION CENTERS
We need our federal representatives to bear witness and seek justice for our neighbors.
US Members of Congress are permitted to inspect ICE Detention Centers unannounced; Congressional Staff may inspect with prior notice.
We need our representatives to immediately visit all ICE detention facilities to bear witness and seek justice for what is happening to our neighbors in these cruelty camps and to show our neighbors and their families that they are seen in this awful time of lawless kidnappings and confinement by mercenaries of our current federal government.
70% of detainees have zero criminal record. 29% have minor infractions such as traffic tickets already addressed in their local jurisdictions.
Just this July 4 week when we celebrate the promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for ALL Americans, we have reports of overcrowded conditions and stays beyond 72 hours in Chantilly and of a broken air conditioning system at the Farmville Detention Center which resulted in multiple detainees being sent to the hospital on July 3 as well as a litany of ongoing dire conditions and cruel policies listed below.
It is time for our US Representatives and Senators to use their power of oversight to ensure the humane treatment of our unjustly confined neighbors.
Current Confirmed Conditions at Farmville
• Inadequate and often dangerous medical care• Frigid air conditioning temperatures or extreme heat from broken system
• 24 hour bright lights
• 3-4 hour harassment sessions to sign deportation documents
• Little or no food at meal times
• Days, sometimes weeks, without access to the outdoors
• Religious harassment from guards
• Exploitation of detainee labor
• Extremely poor phone quality
• Legal documents not being delivered to detainees
• Kafkaesque visitation procedures
