We currently only have until February 13 to demand that meaningful change includes:

• Accountability and Oversight. Congress and the Trump Administration must negotiate a final Department of Homeland Security (DHS) bill that delivers justice and accountability for the killing of three U.S. citizens and addresses a pattern of civil and immigrant rights abuses by strengthening congressional oversight over DHS and requiring that DHS comply with investigations over abuses.

• Respect of sensitive locations. Churches and other places of worship, medical facilities, schools, polling places, courts, and other essential services locations should once again be excluded from ICE enforcement to protect community wellbeing and safety.

• Prioritize family unity. Congress must insist on alternatives to detention whenever possible, especially for families with children who routinely experience extreme suffering and isolation due to detention.

• Ending indiscriminate enforcement and militarization. Militarized federal law enforcement agencies must cease flooding our communities.

• Removal of masks. Federal law enforcement agencies are not secret police and should not act anonymously.

• An end to dehumanization. Degrading and inhumane treatment of our immigrant and refugee neighbors must end. Human life and dignity are God-given.

Every one of us deserves to feel safe in our communities—to worship, participate in community life, exercise our rights, and meet our daily needs. This security is rooted in the inherent worth of every person.
