At a time when the incoming government have promised to expand nursery provision, it is shocking that the provision at Balham and Eastwood Maintained Nursery Schools is being cut. They are outstanding nurseries that serve a high proportion of SEND and vulnerable children. Due to years of under-funding by previous governments, they are in deficit. Despite NEU members trying to negotiate and put forward proposals to reduce the deficit, the employer has pushed forward with plans to make 8 of the 9 existing staff at Eastwood and half the staff at Balham redundant at the end of this academic year.
