Don’t Make Ayanna’s Family Homeless!

Ayanna McClure, a single mom raising two children (including a son with special needs), will be forced out of her home if her new landlord goes through with a planned 70% rent increase.

On January 5th, her building was sold and Vici Cincinnati LLC took over management. Less than a week later, the property manager, Nathaniel Finney, posted a notice saying her rent would increase from $500 to $850 per month. This would make her rent more than 80% of her monthly income, forcing her to leave her home of the last two years.

“I’ve asked them to be reasonable,” Ayanna said. “My son gets very upset if his routine is broken. Having to move again would cause him significant distress. I can’t even think about how horrible it will be for him if we have to sleep in our car again.”

“We could move after the school year is over. That would give me time to find a new place & let him keep his routine until school is finished.”

Ayanna’s son’s school year ends in May. Her building is half empty, and she’s currently in one of the smaller (less profitable) units.

Vici Cincinnati LLC and the other corporations listed at its address have 50 properties with between 90 and 240 total available units. The total market value of these properties is $2.7 million, according to the Hamilton County Auditor’s records.

This life-disrupting rent increase is the equivalent of a rounding error to these organizations. To go forward with this rent increase would demonstrate such callous indifference to human suffering as to border on the criminal.

Please stand with Ayanna and demand that Christopher Finney, Nathaniel Finney, and Eli Krafte-Jacobs pause the rent increase for the rest of her son's school year.
