Gov. Spanberger vetoed legislation that would have protected our courthouses, hospitals, schools, and polling places, from warrantless arrests. ICE agents would have been required to obtain a 'Judicial Warrant' (a warrant issued by a judge). The vetoed bills, SB351 and HB650, had been passed by both chambers of the Virginia General Assembly.
The Governor then issued Executive Order 16 to mitigate the veto — but it is vague and ineffectual.
Of the vetoed bills, the Governor said, "I appreciate the goal and intended purpose...."
