Encourage your legislators to protect education funding!
Last month, legislation was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives proposing devastating cuts to federal education funding. This proposal would cut funding for education by nearly 30%, including the following:
Eliminates Title II-A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, which can be used to provide candidate and fee support for National Board Certification, among other professional development
Eliminates the Supporting Effective Educator Development (SEED) grant, which has funded initiatives to grow NBCTs in targeted states and districts
Slashes Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act by 80%, which provides critical funding to low-income schools
While this proposal will not be signed into law, it is important to encourage House members to push for legislation that protects education funding and can be reasonably negotiated in a bipartisan manner with the Senate.
Now, we need to ensure that every legislator understands that this proposal is a non-starter for our schools, teachers, and students. We urge you to send a message to your legislators telling them how important it is to responsibly fund these programs.
