End unjust firings in New York City

At-will employment means you're at the will of your employer. They can terminate you for any reason or no reason at all so long as it's not discriminatory. That's unreasonable.

Banning at-will employment will give workers a baseline of rights because with secure jobs, we can speak up about bad workplace policies and behaviors.

When we say we live in at-will states, that's most of us — except for residents of Montana.

The Secure Jobs Coalition of New York City, comprised of more than 30 unions and other organizations, is fighting to pass the Secure Jobs Act (intro 909). We're supporting them.

This bill calls for:

  1. 14 days' notice and a written explanation when terminating an employee
  2. Stopping electronic monitoring in discipline and discharge decisions
  3. Using progressive discipline to give employees a chance to improve work performance before termination
Send a letter to all NY City Councilors asking to ban at-will employment in New York City so we can leverage the change to fight for change across the nation.
