Erasure of Black American Descendants of Chattel Slavery and Misrepresentation of Who Built America

To address a deeply offensive and historically inaccurate claim made by New York City Mayor-Elect Mamdani, stating that “immigrants built America.” This statement is not merely incorrect—it is an act of erasure and disrespect toward Black American Descendants of Chattel Slavery (BADOCS)/Foundational Black Americans (FBA), the very people whose stolen labor, bodies, lives, and suffering built this nation from the ground up. Rev. Corine Mack, president of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg NAACP branch, made the same error during a press conference. In 2019, AOC conveyed she didn’t understand who was Black anyway when tasked with inquiries regarding sponsoring a push for reparations for Foundational Black Americans, Descendants of Chattel Slavery. How can those elected to represent or obtain a position of leadership within our community say such things but cannot understand Black American History, ethnogenesis, and our pivotal role in shaping this country and economy?
