Tell Congress Expand the Investigation Into Abuse Across All ICE Detention Facilities Now

Senators Ossoff and Durbin have launched an investigation into abuse and inhumane conditions at the ICE detention facility known as Alligator Alcatraz.

That investigation is a critical first step. It acknowledges serious allegations of mistreatment and begins the process of uncovering what is happening inside one facility.

But reports make clear this is not limited to one location.

Media reporting has documented human rights violations at multiple ICE detention centers, including Krome in Florida, as well as facilities in Texas, Louisiana, and across the country. Pregnant women have been denied care. Measles has spread among children. People have died in custody. Conditions have been described as neglectful, dangerous, and degrading at best -- torture at worst.

This is a nationwide system operating under federal authority.

A limited investigation leaves that system intact. It allows abuse in other facilities to continue without scrutiny and shields those responsible from being identified.

Congress has the power to change that.

A full investigation must expand beyond one site and include every ICE detention facility. It must identify the officials responsible, including guards, contractors, wardens, and ICE leadership. It must document patterns of abuse and create a complete record that cannot be ignored or erased.

This is about accountability, even if Trump's Department of Justice will not hold ICE accountable, future DOJ's will. But the work that must be done now determines what justice is possible later. Without a full investigation, those responsible can avoid consequences. With it, there is a clear path forward when the opportunity for justice can prevail.
