Failure to Unwind the Grassdale Sale

The banner above displays a page from the DNREC website documenting that the 133-acre Grassdale parcel of Fort DuPont State Park remains part of the Delaware Open Space Program which “has helped protect tracts of land throughout the state”.

The worst failing of HB 355 is not unwinding the sale of this public land for private development. Below is the statement Valerie Longhurst and Nicole Poore shared with constituents.

“After the sale was complete, and details surfaced about the transaction, we had our own reservations about the plans for that property. It is extremely unfortunate, but at this point there is no way to reverse the sale.”

These legislators advocated for Jeff Randol’s removal, but now their message is that, although “It is extremely unfortunate,” Randol’s largest and most corrupt deal is untouchable based on a “signed contract”. However, the stack of paper Randol signed his name to was never approved by the Board and was not a completed document.

FightDECorruption.com has proposed a legislative solution to reverse Grassdale through a Joint Resolution based on a statutory remedy provided by Title 7. This proposal has been shared with the sponsoring legislators who have dismissed it without explanation.

Although the General Assembly has never rejected a Fort DuPont bill sponsored by Longhurst and Poore, they now consider a Joint Resolution to reverse the Grassdale sale beyond their legislative powers.
