FamCOSa calls on Mayor Wu and BPS to implement pool PCR testing and a universal masking requirement in all schools for at least 10 school days after December vacation

COVID, FLU, and RSV are predicted to surge this winter, resulting in what has been called a tripledemic. Luckily, we do have proven public health tools! A recent study published in The New England Journal of Medicine and co-authored by staff of the Boston Public Health Commission showed that mask requirements protect schoolchildren and staff from COVID.

However, the City of Boston is not making use of these proven interventions. BPS refused to implement a universal masking requirement after the Thanksgiving vacation. Not surprisingly, there was a rise in cases.

In addition, BPS is only providing families with one rapid test every week. BPS must bring back PCR pool testing, at the very least after school vacations, so that we can better track cases and prevent spread and outbreaks.

BPS Families for COVID Safety (FamCOSa) calls on Mayor Wu and BPS Superintendent Skipper to implement pool PCR testing and a universal masking requirement in all BPS schools for at least 10 school days after the December vacation. Please use our form to write to Mayor Wu, BPS, and Health Commission officials.

Please consider including a personalized message at the beginning of your email - tell Mayor Wu and other officials why you are concerned about COVID safety in schools!
