Stop Data Centers in Cumberland County — Protect Fayetteville’s Health and Water
Predatory data centers are being pushed into our community by distant companies, who seek to enrich themselves while raising our bills, polluting our community, and damaging our health.
Data centers can raise our utility bills, pollute our air with toxic chemicals linked to cardiovascular diseases, drain our water, increase our exposure to carcinogens like GenX in our drinking water, and produce constant disruptive noise. Communities around the country, recognizing these risks, are rising up to oppose these predatory developments successfully.
It is clear that we as residents of Fayetteville and Cumberland County are opposed to new data centers in our community: a petition has already collected more than 1,700 signatures. However, local officials seem determined to promote data centers, hosting a consultant and former Duke Energy executive.
Join me in urging our Fayetteville City Council and Cumberland County Commissioners to reject proposed data centers in Cumberland County. Instead, our local government should enact a moratorium on new data center developments, joining Gates County, Chatham County, Canton, and eleven other states.
