Final push to the MA Senate to Close the MLP Biomass Loophole!
Please write to MA Senate Leadership today! The Massachusetts House has included a measure to close the "MLP biomass loophole" in its clean energy bill, so now it's time to make sure that the Senate does the same! This loophole allows municipal utilities to count burning wood in power plants towards their clean energy goals.
Despite broad support to close the loophole, the MA Senate Ways and Means Committee did not include a legislative fix in its bill. Senator Gomez has filed an amendment that the Senate will need to adopt when it votes on July 1st.
Burning wood for electricity harms our climate, our environment, and our health, and is even more polluting than fossil fuels. There should be no place in our state’s clean energy programs for burning biomass.
