Finish the Red Transit-only Lanes On Ocean

Tell City Hall and SFMTA how much you want faster and more equitable transit on Ocean Avenue!

For Context:

  • SFMTA approved the K Ingleside Rapid Project to add red transit-only lanes on Ocean in 2024 after over a year of public consultation.

  • Recent pushback has caused SFMTA to pause the plan.

  • The K Ingleside train has average speeds as low as 5 MPH on some parts of the corridor.

  • Transit-only lanes have been shown to increase transit ridership, decrease congestion, improve the local economy, and reduce traffic collisions: a win-win for riders, drivers, and pedestrians!

  • Ocean Avenue is designated as a 'high-injury street' because it had such high numbers of traffic crashes.

  • Importantly, red transit-only lanes have been shown to make streets safer for pedestrians. In some areas of SF, red lanes reduced injury collisions by 24%.

  • On Mission Street, red lanes led to a 36% reduction in speeding, a 30% reduction in fast acceleration, and a 21% reduction in hard breaking from cars!

Let’s tell our leaders to finish the K Ingleside Rapid Project as approved and paint the red transit-only lanes!
