Fix the funding for Move Ahead Washington
With only a few days left in the legislative session, lawmakers are scrambling to find a way to pay for “Move Ahead Washington,” an ambitious 16 year, $16 billion transportation package that makes historic investments in transit, bike and pedestrian infrastructure and Complete Streets programs.
They’ve hit a funding roadblock and are $2 billion dollars short. So lawmakers are considering cutting road and bridge maintenance, robbing from funding that will be used to build missing sidewalks and bike lanes, and stealing from toxic clean-up, or affordable housing, education and healthcare, in order to expand highways. That’s not right!
There’s a better way: Balance the package by reducing highway expansion projects.
