Protect Trans Workers
Trans people across the country are being forced out of facilities for their gender in the workplace, and in some cases out of their workplace entirely. We need your help to fix this.
The Supreme Court told us its ruling would not remove rights from trans people, but its decision is bleeding across into other legislation with devastating effects. The High Court recently found that workplace regulations from 1992 now require trans people's exclusion. They also said that we should not be forced into facilities for our assigned gender at birth either, but the law is a mess.
For trans people using men's or women's facilities for years at work without issue, they are being outed by being pushed into third spaces against their will. For trans people in workplaces without these third spaces, it's unclear how they are supposed to access basic facilities at all - and people are already told to stay at home until their employer figures it out.
These decades old rules are not fit for purpose, and generally make gender neutral facilities harder and more expensive to provide - viewing a shared sink between genders as a health and safety violation. They have not kept up with modern times, which is why they are widely ignored already, and are making fixing the mess for trans workers harder.
We need your help, we need to make sure MPs understand the scale of the problem and the need for action to update these outdated regulations and protect trans workers. Will you help and write to yours?
Please tell your local Member of Parliament what's going on, customising it as much as possible with your experiences. It makes a real difference.
If you are trans and impacted by this, or worried you may be, customising this letter with your experiences will make it so much more powerful. Even if you aren't trans, if you don't see how a trans person could navigate your specific workplace with dignity in this landscape - please say so. If you're willing, ask them for an urgent meeting to explain your concerns.
