Fossil Fuel Divestment @ Imperial College London

Today (Friday 10th May) Imperial’s investment committee is meeting to discuss our demands to permanently cut investment ties with the fossil fuel industry. We need you to email Provost Ian Walmsley to support our calls!

Due to mounting pressure from campaigners, Imperial College has removed its remaining investments in fossil fuel companies. This is an incredible win for the campaign. BUT it’s not enough. Our university refuses to respond to calls for a public commitment to ensure they never invest in the fossil fuel industry. Ever again.

It’s been 10+ years of demands for Fossil Free at Imperial. We refuse to accept further delays.

Student and staff campaigners have been organising for full fossil fuel divestment at Imperial College since 2014. We revived the Fossil Free campaign a year ago, and successfully managed to raise support! Hundreds of Imperial College London students, staff and alumni have called on the university to fully divest its £542 million endowment from the fossil fuel industry. This includes former Government Chief Scientific Advisor Sir David King. In December 2022, we released a student petition, which has now received nearly 800 signatures.

Universities are a site of power in the struggle against an industry that is both driving the climate crisis and forcing frontline and Indigenous communities to continually resist ongoing destructive extraction operations on their lands. Fossil Free is an act of solidarity with these communities in their struggles for justice. Support our demands for justice at Imperial.
