MORE DETAILS:

Israel’s genocidal military has attacked and set fire to Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, and Israeli soldiers have reportedly taken hospital director Dr. Abu Safiya and many other Palestinians from the hospital to notorious Israeli torture center Sde Teiman.

We need The New York Times and all Western media to investigate Dr. Abu Safiya’s fate.

Use this page to quickly email specific editors and reporters at The New York Times. Israel has already tortured and killed other Palestinians that it has detained, including Gaza orthopedic surgeon Dr. Adnan al-Bursh. Urge The New York Times to investigate and report on Israel’s capture and treatment of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya (also spelled Abu Safia) and hundreds of Palestinian medical personnel, patients, and other civilians.

Israel has attacked Kamal Adwan Hospital daily since October, as part of Israel’s destruction of medical facilities across Gaza. In late December, Israeli forces burned multiple departments at Kamal Adwan Hospital and forcibly removed numerous medical personnel, patients, and families. During these attacks, Israeli forces detained Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya and hundreds of other people. CNN has reported that according to eyewitness accounts, Dr. Abu Safiya was taken to Israel’s notorious torture center, Sde Teiman. According to reporting by Al Jazeera, the Israeli military has both confirmed and denied holding Dr. Abu Safiya, despite obvious eyewitness reports.

Many fear that Israeli forces at Sde Teiman could already be torturing Dr. Abu Safiya and other captured Palestinian medical personnel. As reported by CNN, one former Palestinian detainee at Sde Teiman stated, “They are all still in detention. They treated them really badly, especially the doctors."

Evidence already demonstrates that Israeli forces previously tortured to death Palestinian orthopedic surgeon Dr Adnan Al-Bursh, dumping him in an Israeli prison yard, bleeding and naked from the waist down. He died shortly after.

Israeli forces had detained and taken Dr. Al-Bursh to torture center Sde Teiman, before moving him to other Israeli prison facilities. Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya and hundreds of other detained Palestinians are at risk of the same horrifying fate.

Please urge The New York Times to investigate what Israel is doing to Dr. Abu Safiya and hundreds of other Palestinian medical personnel, before it is too late.

The New York Times has already reported on, quoted, or referenced Dr. Abu Safiya in multiple articles. On December 2nd, The New York Times even published an opinion piece by Dr. Abu Safiya. But since Dr. Abu Safiya’s capture and Israel’s shutting down of Kamal Adwan Hospital, The New York Times has not reported on Dr. Abu Safiya’s condition or location.

The New York Times did report that the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed concern regarding Dr. Abu Safiya’s fate, but The New York Times has yet to fully document the global chorus of concern regarding Dr. Abu Safiya’s capture and treatment. In addition, The New York Times has not reported on the notorious Israeli torture center Sde Teiman since August.

Please use this page to take action now. We need The New York Times to investigate Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya's location and condition -- as well as the fate of hundreds of Palestinians taken from Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza.
