Tell the City Council: Reflect the People’s Budget in Your Official Response to the Mayor!

The People’s Budget is a campaign fighting for a New York City that puts people first—not budget cuts, criminalization, or corruption. We’re grateful for the $400M investment in childcare, K-12 education, and CUNY, but we want a budget that works for everyone. The City must fund a budget that invests in mental health, housing-first policies, and immigrant protections, so that we can support the incredible work happening in classrooms across the city.

Unfortunately, the Mayor’s Executive Budget still falls short of REAL public safety.

The City must fund a budget that invests in mental health, housing-first policies, and immigrant protections, so that we can support the incredible work happening in classrooms across the city. We need our partners in government to push for the following in final budget negotiations:

• Fund from Crisis to Care ($90M): Fund the Progressive Caucus’ proposal to expand peer-led crisis teams, fund mental health and substance use care, and support frontline responders.

• Fund CityFHEPS Housing ($215M): Ensure funding promised in City of All is used to expand CityFHEPS as an eviction prevention tool for those most vulnerable to housing instability.

• Protect Immigrant New Yorkers ($152M): Invest in legal services, sanctuary zones, and rapid response funds to safeguard Immigrant New Yorkers from Trump’s mass deportation scheme.

Mayor Adams is gutting essential services while serving the wealthy and politically connected. We need the City Council to step up and reflect the People’s Budget priorities in their official Council Response to the Mayor's preliminary budget. Let's make sure they hear from New Yorkers!
