Tell the Victorian Planning & New AI Ministers to reject NEXTDC’s Data Centre expansion and stop the Perri Melbourne Data Centre (PMDC).

Residents of West Footscray are already dealing with the impacts of NEXT DC’s Data Centre. Including:

• Air pollution and health impacts from the diesel generators

• Hotter temperatures

• Noise and light pollution

• Serious fire risk due to the stockpiling of lithium and diesel fuel

• Loss of amenity, living in the shadow of giant buildings, our streets patrolled by security guards.

We are worried about AI Data Centres driving up the cost of energy, construction and worsening the housing crisis. The roll out of AI risks jobs and the livelihoods of artists and creatives. It is increasing surveillance in our workplaces and communities and guzzling precious water in a drought.

The Victorian government has rolled out the red carpet for big tech corporations, bypassing regular planning laws and community consultation.

So far the Minister and the company have ignored demands from residents for remediation, relocation assistance and real community benefit.

We need to demonstrate to the planning Minister the scale of community concern and opposition to data centres in West Footscray.

Can you email the Victorian Planning Minister, Sonya Kilkenny and new Minister for AI, Anthony Carbines, to demand they reject NEXTDC’s expansion and stop PMDC?
