We need your help to give our whole community a voice in the future of our schools! San Lorenzo Unified School District is deciding which of our schools may close or merge, and the application to help shape that decision closes tomorrow, September 25.

The District is forming a 20-member School Consolidation Advisory Committee to study our schools and recommend which ones to close or consolidate. The committee will meet throughout the school year starting October 21, and its recommendations go to the Board in spring 2027. Whoever sits on this committee will have a direct hand in deciding the future of our neighborhood schools.

Most families, students, teachers, and neighbors haven't heard about this opportunity, and the application form is available only in English. A process this rushed favors people who already have access and connections, and leaves out the people whose schools and neighborhoods are at stake.

The stakes are especially high in San Lorenzo, Cherryland, and Ashland. As unincorporated communities, we have less public infrastructure than nearby cities, and our schools are among the most important local institutions we have.

State law requires this committee to reflect the ethnic, age, and socioeconomic makeup of our district, and that takes real outreach and time. Send a letter to the Board today asking them to extend the deadline, reach every neighborhood, and provide full language access so our whole community has a fair chance to be part of this decision.
