GNBVT SC - Fair, Equitable and Transparent Superintendent Search

On Sept. 8, the Greater New Bedford Regional Voc-Tech (GNBVT) School Committee voted to create a Superintendent Search Sub-Committee consisting of its own members to find a new Superintendent to begin leading the district for the 2021-22 school year. Citing concerns about finances, labor relations and the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, Superintendent Search Sub-Committee Chairman Frederick Toomey announced that the search would be restricted to in-house applicants only during the first round. The job is publicly posted and includes an unnecessarily rushed application deadline of Oct, 13 This process is fundamentally flawed in that it eliminates candidates who are potentially more qualified than in-house candidates, as well as limiting the diversity of the applicant pool for the position of Superintendent-Director of GNBVT High School. Our goal is to advance a deliberate and intentional process that increases inclusivity, equity and diversity with the goal of hiring the best qualified candidate to lead the school.
