Governor Newsom: Stand With California Tribes & Sign AB 2218

California Tribes are calling for action on AB 2218 — and thousands of people have already answered.

Nearly 5,500 letters and counting have already been sent in support of AB 2218 through Women for Wolves. As an organization representing a community of more than 250,000 supporters, we are joining California Tribal Nations in calling for a more just and resilient water future.

For generations, California Tribes were excluded from decisions about waters, fisheries, and ecosystems they have stewarded since time immemorial.

AB 2218 helps change that.

The bill advances Tribal participation, ecosystem stewardship, Indigenous Knowledge, and meaningful government-to-government consultation in California water policy.

And this isn't only about addressing historic injustice.

Indigenous Knowledge brings generations of place-based observations about water, drought, fire, wildlife, fisheries, and ecological change. Tribal Nations across California are already restoring wetlands and salmon habitat, protecting streams, reducing erosion, monitoring water quality, and strengthening watershed resilience.

AB 2218 passed the California Senate 28–0.

Now we're asking Governor Newsom to stand with California Tribal Nations and commit to signing AB 2218 when it reaches his desk.
