Virginia public school teachers earn substantially less than the national average, and the low salary contributes to our shortage of teachers.

HB187 would require funding for an annual increase in salary for instructional and support positions so that no later than the 2028-2029 school year these employees will be compensated at a rate at or above the national average salary.
