This is important because we the people can proactively support investments in safe, non-toxic and natural play surfaces on sports fields and playgrounds and into our sacred waterways. The detrimental environmental impacts of artificial turf cannot be overstated. Synthetic fields shed microplastics into our environment, perpetuating pollution and disrupting ecosystems.

The heat-absorbing properties of artificial turf exacerbate urban heat island effect, jeopardizing the well-being of athletes and communities alike. The conversion of natural grasslands and open spaces into artificial turf degrades habitats, increases impervious surfaces-changing water runoff patterns- which elevates flood risks. We are approaching the expiration of current regulations in December of 2025; we hope to see dedicated funding, honoring the sanctity of sacred water and all natural resources. People of faith must use our voices and add to the chorus of advocates seeking to prohibit artificial turf installations.
