Data centers to power AI use huge amounts of energy and water, speeding climate change and increasing air pollution while also driving already high utility prices up even further for all New Yorkers.

In the final days of session in early June, the New York State Legislature passed a one-year moratorium on building any big new data centers in the state. Now we must convince business-friendly, environment-weak Governor Kathy Hochul whose state budget gutted the state's Climate Law to sign the Responsible Data Center Development Act into law rather than vetoing the bill.
