Hold For-Profit Hospitals Accountable
We urgently need you to take action regarding two bills being considered by the CT Legislature Public Health Committee. These bills need your voice and support before end of day on Thursday, 3/18/2021!
House Bill 5575 calls for an establishment of community standards of health and hospital care for private, for-profit hospital ownership in Connecticut. It is about ACCOUNTABILITY.
House Bill 5991 calls for requiring that for-profit hospitals be held to the same standards of accountability as non-profit hospitals in Connecticut. It is about TRANSPARENCY.
The situation with Prospect Medical Holdings at Waterbury Hospital has become ridiculous. Prospect Medical is increasing staff to patient ratios, rationing supplies that are necessary for quality patient care, selling the hospital’s building for parts, and removing millions of dollars from hospital operations in order to make a profit. It is time CT imposes patient standards in the state statutes before for-profit hospitals walk away with everything and close the hospital for good.
For-profit hospitals shouldn't be scared of accountability or transparency unless they have something to hide. As community members, we should want our hospitals to be held accountable so that we know we are safe when we go to them for help and so that we know the workers who treat us are taken care of and treated fairly.
