Tell Ottawa City Council to Honour Hind Rajab!

On January 29, 2024, the 6-year-old Palestinian girl Hind Rajab, together with her aunt and uncle and several cousins, fled the Israeli military's attacks on their neighbourhood in Gaza City. They encountered Israeli tanks near a gas station in the suburb Tal al-Hawa, which fired on their car, killing the adults and several of the children. Hind was trapped in the car with her murdered relatives for hours while she pleaded over the phone with dispatchers from the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) to be rescued. When PRCS medics Yusuf Zeino and Ahmed al-Madhoun tried to rescue Hind, they too were murdered.

Since June 2023, the section of Metcalfe Street outside the currently-closed Iranian embassy has featured symbolic plaques put up by the City of Ottawa to commemorate the death in police custody of the Kurdish-Iranian woman Jina/Mahsa Amini.

The section of Charlotte Street outside the Russian embassy has also featured "Free Ukraine/Ukraine libre" signs since March 2022.

Yet the section of O'Connor Street outside the Israeli embassy has no such signs.
