Further Background:Thanks to thousands of calls and letters in support of guaranteed insurance reductions, the Louisiana Senate opposed Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple and voted unanimously in support of SB484. But Louisiana lawmakers are rushing to end this year’s legislative session early BEFORE they fix our state’s insurance crisis.On May 7th, Commissioner Temple openly opposed guaranteed insurance reductions in SB484 while moving Governor Landry to sign his insurance-company-friendly bills that delay reform and grow insurance industry profits by allowing them to drop longtime policy holders, increase rates and limit accountability when insurance companies break the law.

What the Reform Fortified Roof Program (SB484) Does:

SB484 by Senator Royce Duplesses would make homes less vulnerable and more resilient to damage from storms SB484 creates a system to guarantee all insurance companies provide a reduction in savings on insurance premiums if you upgrade your roof. The grant program also provides a $10,000 per household grant for Fortified Roofs that improve resilience in storms including sealed roof deck, locked down roof edges, impact resistant shingles, and wind/rain resistant attic vents.
