It’s Time for Real Rent Control in Manitoba

Call on Premier Wab Kinew to strengthen Manitoba's rent control legislation!
During the 2023 provincial election, Wab Kinew promised to “make life more affordable for renters” and “strengthen rent controls with legislation to protect renters from big rate hikes.”
After being elected, the NDP introduced legislation that would partially limit egregious rent increases through a process called ‘above guideline rent increases,’ but then allowed it to die. They have not reintroduced the bill.
After months of putting pressure on the Premier Wab Kinew, our demands for stronger rent regulations have been heard. "New rules to stop unfair rent increases and strengthen renters' rights" was one of the highlights in the November 2025 Throne Speech, which outlines what the government expects to achieve during the next legislative session.
We need to continue working together to apply pressure to ensure we achieve real, strong rent control in Manitoba with new legislation passing in the spring of 2026.
Send our letter now urging the Premier to keep his promise to renters and introduce legislation to make housing more affordable.
