It's time to build a better Connecticut
The building sector is the largest contributor to climate emissions in the State of Connecticut, and without meaningful legislative action now, we could end up spending millions of dollars on new and renovated buildings that lock in decades of wasted energy, air pollution, and avoidable greenhouse gas emissions.
Build Better CT supports legislation that leverages high energy efficiency, beneficial electrification, and reduced embodied carbon to improve health, reduce energy burden, address environmental justice, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
We support the following policies to meet our state's climate goals and achieve a better quality of life for all CT residents:
- Energy Transparency: Disclose home energy efficiency data and estimated annual energy costs to prospective home renters and buyers.
- SB 979 Energy Affordability, Energy Efficiency, and Green Cities.
- See this fact sheet for more information.
- Advanced Construction Codes: Enact a Statewide Stretch Code that can voluntarily adopted by municipalities, and updated CT High Performance Standards for state-funded buildings including public schools.
- SB 961 An act concerning carbon-free school requirements for new school construction and establishing other school construction and public health requirements for school districts
- Energy Efficiency Funding: Invest more money in the successful Energize CT energy efficiency programs to benefit environmental justice communities.
- Buy Clean: Enact state procurement guidelines that require using building and construction materials with a smaller climate footprint.
- HB 6401 An Act Concerning Low Embodied Carbon Concrete in State Construction Projects
