It’s time to say NO to Big Tech and demand a data center moratorium in Washington.

Moratorium Now

AI data centers require enormous amounts of electricity, water, and land. But too often, the benefits go to Big Tech, while local communities and ratepayers in Washington pay the price.

Communities from Seattle to Spokane are fighting back against data centers and winning. But we shouldn’t have to play whack-a-mole against trillion-dollar corporations. This is a statewide issue, and we need statewide solutions.

We need real guardrails to protect communities from predatory tech companies, but not enough is known about the real costs of hyperscale AI data centers. Lawmakers and local communities need time to get this right. A moratorium gives our state the time to assess the real costs of AI data centers and implement regulations that protect residents and our environment.

Washington is in its fourth consecutive year of drought, and we’re coming out of one of the most destructive wildfire seasons in state history. Our power costs are rising as Washington families struggle due to the worsening affordability crisis. At the same time, our state is struggling to meet our renewable energy goals, and we’re now having to compete with the deep pockets of Big Tech for clean energy resources.

Take action: send a letter to Governor Bob Ferguson and your state senators and representatives to demand a data center moratorium in Washington!
