Demand Santa Monica Provide PAST DUE Repair Recommendations to the White Family
Situated at the heart of downtown Santa Monica, the Ebony Beach Club (EBC) would have been a hub of culture, resistance, and a symbol of Black self-sufficiency. Instead, it was deliberately targeted by the city and razed two months before its doors opened. Silas White, the proprietor, was devastated by the loss of his dream and accurately named why his beach club never came to fruition - racism.
On March 19, 2024, sixty years after EBC was razed, Santa Monica City Council unanimously voted to provide repair recommendations for the Ebony Beach Club claim thanks to your advocacy!! However, the city’s self-imposed deadline of 90 business days came and went and a year later, Silas’ daughter, Connie, remains in limbo.
Where Is My Land, who is working on behalf of EBC and Connie White, are now targeting the City Attorney and Assistant City Attorney, Douglas Sloan and Susan Cola, urging them to take definitive action on the White family claim.
