Keep BC Rent Bank funded. Prevent evictions and homelessness.
Thousands of B.C. renters are one unexpected crisis away from losing their homes. A sudden job loss, medical emergency, or family crisis shouldn't mean eviction or homelessness—but right now, that's the reality for too many people across our province.
Since 2019, BC Rent Bank has been a lifeline for vulnerable renters. This province-wide network of community rent banks has helped over 15,000 people stay housed by providing over $11 million in emergency financial assistance. Every $1 invested returns $5 in savings to renters and government by preventing the devastating costs of eviction and homelessness.
But this critical program is at risk.
The current provincial funding agreement ends in spring 2026, and without a renewed commitment from the provincial government, the program cannot continue operating. Demand for rent bank services has grown by 40% year-over-year as renters struggle with high housing costs, economic uncertainty, and the impacts of tariffs and inflation.
We're calling on the B.C. government to commit now to long-term, stable funding for BC Rent Bank.
This isn't just about numbers—it's about keeping families together, seniors in their homes, and people with disabilities housed. It's about preventing the trauma of eviction and the ripple effects of homelessness on individuals, families, and communities.
The B.C. Government has been a partner in housing support. Now we need them to build on that commitment and ensure no renter loses their home due to a temporary financial emergency. Add your name to demand renewed funding for BC Rent Bank before it's too late.
