Kids Over Corporations: Tell State Leaders to Fully Fund Our Kids’ Education

Across the country, lawmakers are making budget decisions that prioritize corporations and privatization over our kids’ education.

While corporations receive massive tax breaks and subsidies, public schools are left struggling to meet the needs of students. Billions of dollars that could support students are diverted into corporate tax incentives and private school voucher programs.

Investigations have found that at least $2.4 billion in a single year was redirected from school funding into corporate property tax breaks across dozens of states. Because schools make up the largest share of local budgets, they often bear the biggest losses when these deals are made.

At the same time, voucher programs are rapidly expanding nationwide. These programs drain public school budgets while subsidizing private tuition, often for families who were already paying for private school.

The consequences are real. Public schools face staff shortages, delayed building repairs, larger class sizes, and fewer services for students.

Public education serves the vast majority of children in this country. It is the foundation of opportunity and the backbone of communities. But that system cannot function if lawmakers continue putting corporations and privatization ahead of students.

Governors and state legislators must make a different choice. Click “Start Writing” to tell your state leaders to put kids over corporations and fully fund our kids’ education.
