Lambeth council – bring Maria home!

Please use this quick online tool to support our HASL member Maria and her family who have been forced to temporary accommodation outside of London and now face over 4 hours travelling to school and back each day. Lambeth council must find them a home close to school!

Maria explains: “I’m not able to spend enough time with my baby son. I also don't have enough money to buy food around here as it is very expensive. I don't have enough money anymore to go to my classes. The situation means that I can't sleep and it makes me so sick. I only think about my children and what can I do since I don't have a family here to support me.”

Back in January, Lambeth council housed Maria and her young children in temporary accommodation outside of London. After forgetting about her case for months, the council recently issued her with a decision saying that the temporary accommodation is suitable for the long-term.

Being forced from their community is having very serious impacts on the family:

·      Maria, her 6 year old and her 18 month old baby have a long and difficult journey to their primary school in Brixton each day.

·       Maria has lost her job in London because the commute was so long and expensive so it became unaffordable for her work!

·       The situation is taking a toll on the family’s mental and physical health.

Let Lambeth know that this is not OK! Lambeth council must find the family temporary accommodation close to her son’s school!
