Let the Shelters in!

On Thursday, 8-month-old baby, Rahaf, died of hypothermia in Khan Younis due to living in a tent in cold weather. News shows Gaza’s tent camps once again submerged under heavy rain, with families scooping muddy water from their shelters and children standing ankle-deep in floodwater. Last winter, babies froze to death in these same conditions, and now history is repeating itself. After a two-year genocide in which Israel destroyed 90% of homes in Gaza, it is preventing the entrance of shelter. Israel continues to block caravans and prefabricated shelters, leaving hundreds of thousands exposed to the cold and storms. Canada cannot remain silent. As Canadians, we have a responsibility to act — to demand that our MPs and government speak out, denounce these restrictions, insist that shelter and aid be allowed in, end the Canada’s Free Trade Agreement with Israel, and impose a two-way embargo. This campaign is our chance to raise our voices together and push Canada to take a stand before more lives are lost.
