Siwatu-Salama Ra, Environmental Justice leader, mother of two, wife and daughter defended herself and her family against assault in 2017 with a legal, licensed, unloaded firearm in 2017. In 2018, she was convicted on a felony firearm charge and served 9 months in prison, which included giving birth to her second child in prison.

The Michigan Court of Appeals overturned her conviction. Community members sent nearly 100 letters to the presiding judge. Members of the Wayne County Prosecutor's office have stated in court that Siwatu doesn't belong in prison. Now we are calling on people of conscience everywhere, but especially Wayne County residents to sign the letter respectfully asking Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy to not subject Siwatu, her family and community to another trial. We must keep Siwatu free and your letter to the Prosecutor would help mightily.
