MA House: Stop the Climate Rollbacks!
Massachusetts State Representatives are considering a costly climate rollback bill. It guts landmark Massachusetts clean energy and climate policies and reeks of MAGA mentality and fossil fuel interests.
Chair Cusack is repealing our critical state commitments and climate action programs without touching drivers of rising energy costs like reckless utility spending on pipelines and reliance on expensive fossil fuels. It's clear why: this is an industry bill meant to pad utility profits. The bill is now in the hands of the House Ways and Means Committee. The House leadership could move quickly and bring the bill to a vote before all state Representatives as early as November 19th, when the legislature breaks for Thanksgiving.
Examples of the bill's measures:
Rolls back 2030 climate goals
Guts Mass Save, removing decarbonization and electrification from its directive, reducing its budget, and adding incentives for gas furnaces back into the program
Reduces the Renewable Portfolio Standard (renewables in our electricity) from 3-1% annual growth, dramatically lowering our rate of clean energy adoption
Removes a moderate-income discount electric rate that would save people money
... and more
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
Send a letter to your Representative to reject this bill and any legislation that recklessly moves the goalposts, favors expensive fossil fuel use in our buildings and electric grid, or removes critical programs that help low- and moderate-income households save on their energy bills.
