Make Vets Mandatory at Rodeos
At the Miriam Vale Rodeo in Central Queensland, a horse suffered a catastrophic leg injury shortly after leaving the chute. Witnesses watched as the animal collapsed, was restrained, and removed from the arena. An announcement claimed a vet was “on the way,” yet there are serious concerns that no veterinarian was actually onsite. The horse was later euthanised. When injuries like this happen, every minute matters. But in Queensland, there is still no requirement for a qualified vet to be present at rodeos.
Rodeo animals are exposed to stressful, high-risk conditions, and when something goes wrong, they deserve immediate care. Right now, that basic safeguard isn’t guaranteed. By signing this action, you’re calling on the Queensland Government to require onsite veterinarians at every rodeo, so injured animals are not left waiting, suffering, or without proper care when it matters most.
