S975/A3231, introduced by Senator Thomas Kean (R-21) and Assemblyman Ronald Dancer (R-12), establishes animal trunk fighting as an animal cruelty offense and a felony of the third degree.

"Trunk fighting”: In this atrocity, gamblers force two or more dogs into a trunk of a motor vehicle, then place bets on which animal will survive. To evade police, the perpetrators drive around. When the fighting noises cease, they open the trunk to collect on their bets.

This bill has widespread support. It unanimously passed through two Senate committees and the full Senate. On January 27, the bill unanimously passed out of the Assembly Agriculture committee.

We heard that the bill may make the Supplemental Board List for March 25, giving the Assembly the opportunity to vote on A3231. We need your help to make this happen. Please act today.
