More than 4 million people have lost SNAP since last summer. Tell Congress: No farm legislation that leaves families behind.

Senate Republicans released a draft Farm Bill that fails to reverse the largest SNAP cuts in history or stop even more families from losing food assistance. Then, President Trump released text for an emergency supplemental request that includes over $11 billion in assistance for farmers―but fails to also help families struggling with high grocery costs.

Last year’s Big Brutal Bill cut approximately $187 billion from SNAP. In only 13 states that report child-level data, approximately 808,000 children lost assistance between July 2025 and March 2026. In total, more than 4 million people have lost SNAP benefits nationwide.

The supplemental request and Senate Farm Bill proposal both leave those historic cuts in place. It fails to restore lost benefits or end the harmful shift of SNAP costs onto states. That shift could force states to cut assistance, slash other essential services, or place even more barriers between eligible families and the food they need. New USDA data show that most states will soon face massive new costs to continue SNAP.

States will be charged based on payment error rates that largely reflect unintentional administrative mistakes, including errors that caused families to receive too little assistance. They are also being judged using data from fiscal years that were already underway before Congress created these penalties, giving states virtually no time to prepare.

Meanwhile, congressional Republicans and White House officials are discussing billions of dollars in additional agricultural aid. Farmers deserve meaningful support, and so do the families who buy the food they produce. Congress must include help for families in any bill that includes farm aid―and an important first step is to give every state the same two-year delay in the harmful cost share.

A Farm Bill―or any form of farm relief―should help farmers grow food and help families afford it.
