MPS Lead Crisis: DEMAND HEALTH COMMISSIONER DECLARE A PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY

Milwaukee Public Schools is amidst a lead crisis with 7 schools impacted to date, with many more schools expected to follow. The City of Milwaukee has some of the highest levels of lead poisoning throughout the country. This is a public health emergency and should be treated as such.

A public health emergency declaration will mobilize resources and interdepartmental cooperation which would allow for a more comprehensive approach to the MPS lead crisis. The Milwaukee health commissioner, Dr. Michael Totoraitis, has the authority to declare a public health emergency.

Please join us in demanding that Dr. Totoraitis declare a public health emergency to mobilize resources to rid our environment of lead, both within the schools and the city. We deserve a safe and healthy community in which to live, learn, play, and thrive!
