MY MONEY, MY VOICE! LEGISLATORS ARE ATTACKING TEACHERS' VOICES
SEND AN EMAIL OR CALL YOUR LEGISLATOR RIGHT NOW AT 1-800-372-7181, AND TELL THEM TO VOTE NO ON SB 7!
Legislators are so afraid of the power of your united voices that they want to end your union membership by eliminating payroll deduction of dues.
There have been two “paycheck protection” bills moving this session, SB7 and HB 364. Today, SB7 was amended by the House Economic Development & Workforce Investment Committee to include many of the worst provisions of HB 364.
If passed, SB 7 as amended by the House will stop payroll deduction of dues for all KEA members. The bill carries an “emergency” clause, so will become effective immediately upon its final passage.
The General Assembly knows you are watching them and that you will act together to protect public education. They don’t like being challenged or held accountable. This isn’t about protecting you; it’s about protecting themselves from you.
Even worse, the party of individual choice and personal liberty suddenly believes that you can’t make informed decisions for yourself.
Here’s what SB 7 (as amended) does:
X - Prohibits voluntary payroll deduction for your association or union dues even with your written permission
X - Prohibits voluntary payroll deduction for political purposes even with your written permission
X - Immediately upon final
passage, ends membership in KEA for those who use payroll deduction
You don’t need legislators limiting your personal choices or telling you how to spend your money.
