National Grid's Fracked Up Response Is A Slap In Our Face
Background: Right now, National Grid, the corporate utility covering part of NYC and Long Island wants to raise our rates, one of the highest in the nation, to expand more fossil fuels in an opaque process in a boardroom. We know that more fossil fuels anywhere puts the climate at risk for everyone.
Together, over the past several weeks, we filed over 7,000 comments against National Grid’s proposal to raise our monthly utility bills in order to expand fracked gas infrastructure. And National Grid has the audacity to come back with two recommendations to NYS decision-makers for their long-term energy plan: Liquefied fracked gas facilities, upstate -> downstate pipeline expansion, and the massive Williams NESE fracked gas pipeline in NY Harbor (denied by the NYS DEC on May 15, 2020, but they may keep fighting for it).
It is our civic duty to respond boldly to this multinational corporation's recommendations to fatten their wallets at the risk of our health and safety. While they completely ignored our public input, we must notify Governor Cuomo's Public Service Commission to shape the outcome of their monthly meeting in June.
