NJ TRANSIT: A Better Light Rail for Hudson, Bergen, and Essex Counties!

stranded riders on bergenline avenue station

The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail carries more than 60,000 people per weekday in the most densely populated region of New Jersey, yet it hasn’t been expanded since 2011. It’s the 6th busiest light rail system in the country, yet it’s still missing the “Bergen” in “Hudson Bergen Light Rail.”

It’s time for the state to fulfill its promise made more than 25 years ago, build the northern extension, as well as break ground on the western extension to Route 440 in preparation for a connection to Newark.

Investments in mass transit are key to improving our region’s street safety, keeping our region economically competitive, and reducing our carbon emissions. The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) is well-positioned to help the region achieve these goals. Tell our elected officials to prioritize funding improvements to the HBLR!
