No 287(g) in Our Community!
ICE is ramping up its enforcement and is seeking outside help from state and local law enforcement to arrest and deport your neighbors. This buildup of the deportation machine has been tried before and led to documented racial profiling, civil rights violations, isolation of immigrant communities, family separation, and the misuse of local resources.
The St. Charles County Council introduced Bill 5474, which directs the County Executive to enter into a 287(g) agreement with ICE. This agreement would deputize local law enforcement to act as ICE agents, expanding the immigration enforcement apparatus in the region.
By allowing local law enforcement to collude with ICE, this agreement sows distrust in our community and rips families apart. Send an email to the County Council today to protect your immigrant neighbors and ensure that your tax dollars are not used to turn St. Charles into a show-me-your-papers county.
