On January 20th at 6:30 pm, at the beginning of that Council meeting, Metro Council will decide on whether or not to confirm Campbell West to the Arts Commission for a third term expiring in 2030. West is being appointed by Mayor Freddie O’Connell and was approved by the Rules Committee on December 16, 2025. The final vote goes before Metro Council on Tuesday, January 20th.

Campbell West voted against artists and for discrimination in August 2023. She is the last remaining defunder on the commission from our first Title VI complaint. Rather than learning from what was revealed, she voted again for discrimination in FY25 and FY26. Campbell West has consistently shown favor for friends, voting for administrators at art monopolies to get their cut first, instead of working artists who create the art. Again at meetings that weren't streamed, with notes that weren't posted in a timely fashion--when that was one of the major points to come out of our first complaint--West ignored the bulk of community feedback and gave our tax dollars to large organizations instead of BIPOC-led community-based projects.

Campbell West was originally confirmed to the Arts Commission in 2019 and again in 2022. This is her third time up for confirmation—a clear breach in democratic participation.

We stand against a third term for a person who has consistently voted against the people.
