Discrimination has no place in Iowa

On Thursday, February 27, the Iowa House is hosting a public hearing and then likely debating the bill to remove gender identity from the Iowa Civil Rights Act. Taking away these fundamental rights and allowing discrimination would have DEVASTATING consequences for transgender people and families in Iowa:

  • Banks could deny loans and credit cards based on gender identity
  • Landlords could deny Iowans from renting an apartment
  • Employers could fire someone for simply being who they are
  • Businesses would be allowed to deny basic services
Every Iowan - including those who are transgender - deserves to live freely and be treated fairly by the laws of our state without fear of discrimination. Here are just a few highlights of the bill:

  • Strip transgender Iowans of protections under the Iowa Civil Rights Act
  • Remove the ability for Iowans to update gender markers on their birth certificates
  • Erase transgender Iowans under the law
Now is the time to contact your state lawmakers and tell them discrimination has NO place in Iowa.
