NO LOOPHOLES for Maine Data Centers!
The AI data center gold rush has come to Maine, and the Legislature is voting NOW on a bill that could protect Maine people from the worst of it. Please help us tell legislators today to support strong protections with no loopholes!
Big, energy-hungry data centers could badly inflate Maine electricity costs, which are already far too high. From the mid-Atlantic states to Tennessee and Illinois, U.S., data centers have caused electricity customers to pay $9.3 billion more last year alone. Energy-hogging data centers imperil our clean energy progress, use huge amounts of water, and speed up AI-related job losses.
AND: Since Our Power took up the data center battle, developers and lobbyists have set up a shady front group. They’re pouring thousands into misrepresenting a single project and trying to open up a loophole that could make LD 307 toothless.
Committee amendment “A” to LD 307 would enact a simple, 18-month moratorium on new data center permits. This would give experts and policy leaders time to review data center challenges and best practices -- in the full light of day -- and to enact policies that protect Maine people!
To keep Maine electricity rates from skyrocketing, we need your help today! Please sign our new, NO LOOPHOLES petition in support of LD 307, Committee Amendment “A”! Your message will go directly to Maine state legislators and to the Governor.
Your voice makes a difference. Thank you for signing today!
